Angela Gheorghiu together with Mario Frangoulis will perform a unique concert at the Herodes Atticus Amphitheatre on September 23rd 2017.

It will be a memorable evening, celebrating both the end of the summer and the beginning of fall. Mario Frangoulis welcomes the most important soprano of our times, Angela Gheorghiu, to our beautiful city. Ms Gheorghiu has been acclaimed in all the world's major opera houses for her golden sound, personal charisma and a talent that is ‘sharp as a diamond’. The Romanian born soprano is a living legend.

Angela Gheorghiu and international Greek star Mario Frangoulis join forces to share with their audience a common love and passion for great music and classical songs! Together they will offer a variety of classical masterpieces that were sang by Ms.Gheorghiu in her award winning album ‘My World’ as well as beloved duets and arias from the operatic repertoire to crossover favorites.

Mario Frangoulis will also perform some of the best known songs that have highlighted his 30 year international recording and stage career.

The event will feature the Athens State Orchestra, to be conducted by Eugene Kohn. Maestro Kohn first achieved recognition as a young man, working for several years as piano accompanist to Maria Callas. Another special guest will be acclaimed Hungarian violinist Zoltan Maga, in an unusual cameo appearance.

Angela Gheorghiu described as ‘the last of the Divas’ and the Sunday Times referred to her voice as “a liquid instrument of great lyrical beauty with gleaming spun-golden notes” and proclaimed her a worthy successor to Maria Callas. Ms.Gheorghiu has left her mark on roles such as Mimi in La Boheme, Tosca, Violetta in La Traviata and Adriana Lecouvreur in the most important lyric houses in the world.

Billboard calls Mario Frangoulis, “Daring and inspring!” while CNN.com says, “His world is distilled to pure sound, all voice.” Mr. Frangoulis brings his own interpretative powers and charisma and being a perfectionist and as always promises a unique performance under the historic monument of the Acropolis, the Odeon of Herod Atticus. The greek tenor has made a huge mark in the world of theatre in Londons West End playing the lead romantic roles of Marius in Les Miserables, Raoul in Phantom of the Opera, Tony in West Side Story at Teatro Alla Scala in the year 2000. His contract with Sony Classical has propelled him to his international career.

The artistic collaboration of these two unique and beloved artists together will be the event of the season, under the stars of the Athenian sky at the majestic Herod Atticus Amphitheatre.
